On August 1, 2025, Help The Woman Campaign brought hundreds of women, volunteers, and community supporters to the streets of Uyo for our annual Cervical Cancer Awareness Walk — and the message was unmistakable: no woman should die from a preventable disease.
The walk began at 8:00 AM in Ikot Ekpene, Uyo, and stretched through the heart of the community, with participants carrying banners, wearing campaign t-shirts, and distributing awareness materials to market traders, commuters, and families along the route.
Why This Walk Matters
Cervical cancer kills more Nigerian women than almost any other cancer — yet it is one of the most preventable. The HPV vaccine, regular screenings, and early treatment can virtually eliminate it. The barrier is not medicine. It is awareness, access, and stigma.
Every woman who walked with us on August 1st became an ambassador for that message. Every conversation she has with a neighbour, a sister, a daughter carries the potential to save a life.
What Happened on the Day
- 200+ participants joined the walk
- Free health education materials distributed in Ibibio and English
- On-the-spot questions answered by trained health educators
- Referrals issued for free screenings at partner health centres
We are grateful to every volunteer, partner, and community member who made this event possible. The movement is growing — and the lives we save are proof of that.
